After watching Daddykirbs Farm and J&J Acres create arbors using cattle panels, I decided to make some of my own. I had to change things up a bit due to the span I had to cover. We are looking forward to a good harvest this year.

We picked up a load of fresh… as in really fresh… cow manure. I needed to add to my compost pile, as I anticipate the need for a lot of good compost next spring. This stuff is too hot to use this year, so I put it out to cook down a bit. Watch it HERE.
A quick update on the experiment.
I decided to take a look at the land from above…. about 200′ above. It has undergone some changes since this image was taken. This is our view from Google Earth.
I had a chance to take a quick look in the hives today. I needed to figure out what was going on with the dead bees, well, the halves of dead bees I found yesterday on the hive cover. After all that, the mystery rages on. Check it out HERE
So I went out to watch the bees and do a little clean up from having moved some equipment recently. When I got there, I found an unexpected sight… bee parts on the hive. I was cutting it close to dark, so I will have to try to get into the hive tomorrow. I didn’t see any ants, which was what I first feared. I HATE ants.
Check out the video HERE.
We got a swarm call, our first of the year. Hopefully this is the kick off to a busy swarm season. We were a bit worried on the way to the swarm, as it was pouring rain. It turned out being ok, and all went well. Watch the video HERE.
The other day, we built a pallet goat shed. I had intended to redo my chicken yard using the remaining pallets, however, I changed my plans. I am going to separate my chickens by breed to grow my flock and possibly sell chicks. As a result, I need to plan a bit more before I begin that. So, instead, I decided to set up a composting station.
We were able to get some pallets recently. I paid a fellow a dollar each. I know there are free pallets to be had, and I have gotten several, but I could hardly say no for a buck. The goats have needed a new house for quite some time, so today, we went to work putting one together. In the video, I say it took about an hour and a half… I guess time flies when you are having fun, it was closer to 4 hours total time.
We picked up a young goat buckling today. He is 6 weeks old, and cute as a button. My daughter has fallen in love with him, as you can see in the video. We have high hopes for this little guy as we venture down a path we have never taken before.
